Manna from heaven
Or at least, vegetables.
I went to my university's free food bag handout today. I more or less predicted that it would be store bread and some vegetables, and it was, but wow, I can't tell you how grateful I am for this free shot in the arm. I was self-conscious about going, because I was kind of dressed up, in clothes that only look threadbare when you squint, and I was worried people would think or say: sir, you're not poor enough to get free food. Which I would be flattered by even as it obscured the truth.
Here's my loot:

- I don't know what to do with a head of lettuce
- The carrots are iffy too, they're not my fave, generally speaking.
- Is that a sweet potato or what?
- What sort of gigantic green pepper is that? It's bigger than any I've ever seen.
I know how to eat pretzels and bread. And I couldn't be happier for more onions. The orange I figured out already... meaning, I cut it in half thinking it was a grapefruit. Then I ate it like an orange, because it was an orange.
Live and learn!
