Journeying Through Food in Love

Really really tall pancakes

I got more milk yesterday, so I'm back to mostly pancakes in the morning. For me it's proving a really nice morning food, better than bread. It's got all this extra stuff in it (milk, egg, butter) and it combines it all in one thing. Very convenient, you know? Eating two giant pancakes with peanut butter on them at 5 or 6 in the morning keeps me pretty happy and not hungry well past 1pm. The same cannot be said for toast.

This morning's pancakes were really reaching for the stratosphere. I've been learning that it is, really, quite key to 1) not over-milk them and 2) not over-stir them. I keep it pretty dry and barely mixed, and they just blow up to an enormous height, and that's with only baking soda; I think it could be taller with baking powder (is that not true?). It's absolutely luscious.

Dinner was free thanks to an also-free documentary screening I attended. I went back to the pizza box twice during the reception. I mean someone had to eat it? No one else was taking seconds. You can't be too proud. The rest of the spread was "Indonesian food" which was cool. When I say "cool", I mean, I and the sophisticated attendees all said "ahhh, yes, excellent, Indonesian food!" and nodded knowingly, while silently wishing it were Mexican or Italian (the documentary had been Italian). They had tamales-but-worse, empanadas-but-worse, and even tiramasu-but-worse. It was like a lot of food I've liked before, just worse. Imagine something hot, oily, and crunchy with delicious meat inside and now make it cold, pudgy, and limp, with cold vegetables inside. It was probably just the wrong Indonesian food. I should go to a proper Indonesian restaurant to clear my palate. And goodness knows all I have to do is turn around blindfolded and walk 100ft. (Okay, I looked it up. Nearest one is 16 min walk. Nepalese or Tibetan or Thai or Bhutanese is much closer. Lol Queens.)
